Legendary home to the Sheriff of Nottingham - nemesis of Robin Hood - Nottingham Castle looks down over the city from Castle Rock. This 17th century ducal palace is home to a museum and gallery exploring 2,000 years of Nottingham’s history. The stunning gardens are the perfect place to relax and enjoy the views over the city. Formerly Nottingham’s courthouse and site of grisly executions, the NCCL Galleries of Justice in the Lace Market explores the history of crime and punishment in Britain. You’ll meet some distinctly unsavoury characters as you take a tour through the courtrooms and dungeons – and you might even find yourself sentenced to death by a Victorian judge. With six galleries in the city, there's artwork to suit all tastes. The Art Exchange on Gregory Boulevard exhibits African and Caribbean art. While The Lakeside Arts Centre on the outskirts of Nottingham hosts touring exhibitions from around the UK as well as work by local artists. The renowned Angel Row Gallery closed in September 2007, to make way for the opening of the Centre for Contemporary Art Nottingham. The prestigious new development will be located in the centre of Nottingham and is expected to open at the end of 2008.
